History

St. George’s U.P. School, established in 1992 as a church school in connection with the Pazhangad Church, has been a renowned school in the Kochi area for its high teaching standards and efficient management since its inception. At that time, promotion from the 7th standard was done through a strict government examination. The first batch from the school sat for the examination in 1924.

The first headmaster was Mr. V. A. Francis, a member of the famous Veliyath family in the country. The locals affectionately called him Keethochan Master, and his sincere efforts raised the school to fame day by day. Although there were U. P. schools in many nearby villages at that time, many people were attracted by the reputation of the Pazhangad School and enrolled their children in this school.

At that time, the school was confined to three rooms in a high building facing east and west in the Pazhangad Church premises. In 1946, an office room was added to the west. Today, the school is functioning in a new building with many rooms built on the western boundary of the spacious school grounds, south of those additions, facing east. The school is now operating in a building with a sealed tiled floor. The school has won the trophy for the U. P. Public Talent Test conducted in schools for the management of the diocese. It has educated many children irrespective of caste and religion and is the pride of Kumbalangi. Alexander Etezhat’s father, Adv. Sugunapalan, and Dr. Nelson Lewis are famous alumni of the school.

About School

St George’s Lower and Upper Primary school, Pazhangad situated in the Model Tourism Village Kumbalanghy continues to impart quality education to the people of the locality irrespective of caste and creed. The school has played and continues to play an important role for the education of the children of the village.

The school started functioning as a Lower Primary school in 1890. The beginning of the school was a great relief to the poor people of the locality. As education was possible only to the rich, the starting of the school made it accessible to the poor as well.

The school was upgraded to an Upper Primary school in 1922. The first batch of the school for public examination appeared in 1924. From then onwards there was steady growth in the mission carried over by the school. The students flocked to the school as being the only resort to complete their primary education.
