The Portuguese, the Dutch and later the British who landed in Cochin for trading in spices, became the rulers of this place by turn. Their indelible culture is visible even today along with that of the Jewish and the Arabic people. This place which is the confluence of various cultures saw the birth of the school on 02.06.1922, and the moving spirit behind this was the Diocese of Cochin and the various missionaries along with the social reformers and the local populace. Everyone contributed to build this institution of learning. The primary aim of the school was to uplift the young ones from economically and socially weak strata of the society. The school was upgraded to the upper primary level in the year 1962. Shortly thereafter during the time of Rt .Rev. Dr..Alexander Edezhath as the Bishop of Cochin, it was raised to the level of a high school in the year 1966. The school had strength of around 2000 students during this period. It was known as a great institution of learning during this time and the past alumni include many people who were prominent in the diverse fields of life.

The economic upheavals of the last 2 decades have wrought havoc in Mattancherry and are very evident in its slums and shanties around the place. Fortunately the school which is centrally located caters to the educational and moral needs of the children from this area.
