History
Kannamaly St Antony’s Lower Primary school is located at a coastal, remote, rural village in Chellanam Grama Panchayath. Kannamaly is the strip of land between the Arabian Sea and the Vembanad Lake. Realizing the need of education for the fishermen people of the locality the then Parish priest of St. Antony’s Parish Rev. Fr. Paul Alumkal took the initiative to start a primary school in 1929. St. Joseph Charity Fund was continuously helping for the up bring of this school from its early crisis. The first school was functioning in big hall with well elevated roof and spacious plinth area facilities. Four specious class rooms were functioning in that hall.
About School
In 1929, Rev. Fr. Paul Alumkal took the initiative and established St Antony’s LP School. The school was built using the wood and other stones of the church, which was damaged by sea waves and was located on the west side of the present road, and was added to the road.It started with the first class 2nd division that day. This institution moved forward by shedding new light of knowledge to the economically and culturally backward people of Kannamali. During that period, the coastal people were gripped by epidemics such as cholera. Even then, many people sent their children to the mosque for the light of education. Since there was not enough space, a new building was built on the east side of the church with the help of the parishioners and classes began there as well. Until 1981, the church vicar appointed teachers to this institution.Kannamali is also a famous place on March 19, the feast day of Vishwaddha Joseph. To date, approximately 3,800 children have graduated from here and many people are performing commendable service in various spheres of society.
