History
St Joseph’s Lower Primary school is situated in the north end of Kumbalanghy, the model tourism village. The history of the school starts with Thathamangalath Kochupaly (also called Karaparambil Assan) who built a small hut to teach the children of the locality. Later the School was shifted to the place where the present church is built. Another prominent personality who contributed to the development of the school is Mr Thomman Anthappan Pazherikal. The present school was built in May 17, 1917. It was Rev.Fr.Lawrence Vindhose, the vicar of St Lawrence’s Church, Edakochi (people of north kumbalanghy were under the pastoral care of St Lawrence’s Church, Edakochi) who got permission from the government to start the school. During the initial years there were classes from 1st to Vth std. But later the Vth std was abolished by the Government in the Lower Primary section. The dream and the need of the people to upgrade the school to an upper primary school was presented to the Minister of Public Instruction, Mr P.J Joseph. Even though necessary orders were issued, due to the stay order of the High Court, the school continued to be a Lower Primary school.
The platinum jubilee celebrations of the school in 1992 gave a fresh impetus to the school. It continues to render committed service to the people of the locality in moulding the children of the place. The centenary of the school was celebrated in 2018 with the collaboration of the Alumni of the school and other well-wishers.
About School
A small school located in the second ward of Kumbalangi Panchayat, adjacent to the church. Thatta Mangalathu Sree Kochupaliyasan, also known as Karaparambilasan, established a school in 1917 and imparted education to his students. Later, the present school was established by Sree Pazherikkal Thomman Ashan. Fr. Lawrence , who was the vicar of St. Lawrence Church, Edakochi at that time, established the school and received approval from the government. Since Thomman Anthappan Sir did not have the legal qualifications, Joseph Master from Mundamveli was appointed. The honor of being the first student goes to Thazhupiparampil Uthup Paul. T. J. John Master was the first headmaster. It is hoped that this school will grow and expand with the growth of the village, improving its physical conditions.
