History
Kumbalanghi, St.Peter’s High School stands as the pioneer in spreading the supremacy of literacy to the people of Kumbalanghi. Kumbalanghy is one of the most populated villages among the nine villages of Kochi Taluk. Even though there are documents that prove the existence of a school already in 1899, St Peter’s Lower Primary school as a recognized school is of a later origin. Having been blessed and sanctified by Rev. Dr. Mathiyas A Olivero Xavier, Bishop of Cochin, St. Peter’s Lower Primary school was officially approved and came into existence on 21st September 1906. The first appointed headmaster was Mr. P. I. Ravi Kaimal., he was followed by Mr. Alexander Parambithara who was the speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly. Many eminent personalities guided the school in the course of time.
In 1921, “Christiabiunnathi Samajam” came forward and took interest to raise the school as a high school. The school was upgraded to High school in 1928 and was entrusted to the Carmelite friars in 1934, but from 1942 onwards the school came under the guidance of the parish priest of St Peter’s church. St Peter’s High school was the only resort to the children of the neighboring villages to complete their school studies. Till 1963, the high school and the lower primary school functioned under a single headmaster and only later they were bifurcated.
In 1998, the Bishop of Cochin, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Kureethara blessed St. Peter’s H.S.S., Kumbalanghi and the school got unveiled as the first Higher Secondary School in the Diocese of Cochin. Under the enterprising leadership of the then General Manager, Rev. Dr. Francis M.J.Fernandez, a brand new exquisite higher secondary school complex started taking its shape. The unique school complex was inaugurated by the Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. John Thattunkal. The Higher Secondary School embarked on its journey in 1998 as per the Order No (MS) 235/98/G.Edn. dated 25/06/1998 under the direction of the Principal -in-Charge Smt.A .X Gracy with 13 higher secondary school teachers and 109 students. In 2009 the block of four class rooms were removed and in its place a new block with 8 class rooms were constructed.
The Centurion in the majestic path way of devout service, signifying the grandiose tradition, dazzling as the lamp of enlightenment- St.Peter’s H.S.S., stands high, as the pioneer in spreading the supremacy of literacy to the people of Kumbalanghi.
