History
In 1599, in the ‘Udayamperoor Soonahados’, it was proclaimed, to have one school in each Parish and admissions were to be given to everyone irrespective of their caste and creed. According to the directions of the Synod, St Francis Xavier’s Parish, Eramalloor decided to start a school in the west avenue of the old church. At the initial stages the students were taught to read and write and fractions like ‘kal’, ‘arakkani’, ‘mahani’ and ‘mundani’ were taught in mathematics. After attaining this basic knowledge, they were trained in workmanship and earn their livelihood
The seeds of thought for a modern primary school was planted during the service of Fr. Antonio Mendez. Thereafter, in 1917 a committee was formed to start the work for a new school. The school was built and inaugurated on May 21, 1917. The first primary classes were completed in 1920 and standard V was initiated in 1930. The first Headmaster was Sri. Narayana Panicker and the first teacher to be appointed was Sri. Sivarama Kaimal.
The school paved the way for a new thought and culture revolution. In those days, caste system prevailed and the lower castes were not permitted to attend the School, but with the beginning of the St. Francis Xavier Primary school, the gate of education was opened to each and everyone irrespective of caste and creed, thus bringing a social change in the society.
The school owes a lot to the dedication and hard work of many headmasters and well wishers. The tiny tree which was planted decades ago has grown into a tree with more than 325 students from standard I to V with a staff strength of 12 teachers.
The school has 12 class rooms and an Office situated in two separate buildings which are totally electrified with every room having a fan and light. Each class room is furnished with baby chairs, benches and desks. Moving with the changing times, the infrastructure of the school is regularly maintained to give a better ambience for the students to develop their potential. Hence the School is equipped with Computers, LCD projector and CD Library. Besides this, a Library is also maintained to develop the reading habits of the students and teachers. The school also has a play ground for physical activities. The students have put up a beautiful garden along with some herbal collections. The school provides proper drinking water and sanitation facilities to the students. A new Block constructed at St Francis Xavier’s LPS, Eramalloor, was blessed by Rev. Dr. Francis Kurisinkal, General Manager of the school.
The school maintains an effective physical training programme which also includes ‘kalaripayattu’ To bring in a social sense among the students, organizations like clubs and bull bulls are established.
